We pride ourselves on helping our boys become confident communicators, and our drama program lets boys find a voice they didn’t know they had.
Through drama, students engage in deep explorations of texts and images, activating their imaginations and creativity. This process helps them develop new understandings and perspectives, fostering collaboration, confidence, creativity, and empathy. By encouraging teamwork and imaginative thinking, drama helps students grasp different viewpoints and explore the human condition.
Our students have numerous opportunities to engage with drama, both within the school and through theatre excursions. Every second year, we stage a full-scale drama production involving a large cast and crew, offering students roles from leading parts to backstage crew, allowing them to learn various theatrical skills.
Every student at Saint Kentigern has the opportunity to develop their public speaking abilities. Our Drama and English departments collaborate to support students as they prepare for and deliver their yearly speeches to their class, honing both their speech writing and delivery skills. Proficient speakers participate in internal speech competitions, with the winners representing the school in external zone competitions.
Co-Curricular Opportunities
Beyond the classroom, intermediate students can join theatre sports, and all students can choose to undertake itinerant Speech and Drama tuition to further refine their skills.
Our drama programme is designed to support and challenge all students, whether they are exceptional communicators looking to refine their skills or less confident individuals who need a nurturing environment to build their self-assurance. Our goal is to develop confident, creative, and empathetic individuals who are fully prepared to communicate effectively in any setting.
