Our curriculum emphasises creative problem-solving through hands-on woodwork projects. Learning that quality craftsmanship is the result of patience, precision, and sustained effort.

Situated within our purpose-built specialist building, our hard material classroom is outfitted with industry-standard tools and equipment, providing an authentic workshop environment where girls can hone their craftsmanship skills and produce high-quality, professional-grade work.

Under the guidance of our skilled teachers, they embark on their woodworking journey by engaging with a variety of tools and techniques. Girls learn to safely operate a scroll saw, belt sander, and drill press. This ensures safety and builds a solid foundation of technical skills.

Beginning with simple projects supported by templates, girls gain practical experience and familiarity with essential equipment, but are encouraged to personalise and adapt these designs, to make them uniquely their own. This advocates for experimentation and self-expression, allowing them to infuse their individual creativity into each project.

As they work through these projects, they develop critical life skills such as perseverance and attention to detail, resulting in a tremendous sense of pride and achievement.

In addition to technical skills, our program focuses on nurturing problem-solving abilities. Students encounter and address various challenges throughout their projects, learning to troubleshoot and find effective solutions. This hands-on approach not only builds their confidence but also enhances their resilience, preparing them for future academic and personal challenges.

Our commitment to a comprehensive education extends far beyond the confines of traditional learning. The hard materials program at Saint Kentigern Girls' School exemplifies our mission to develop well-rounded individuals who are not only proficient in practical skills but also equipped with the attributes necessary to excel in an ever-evolving world. Through this program, we aim to cultivate a generation of young women who are prepared to face the future with confidence, creativity, and a strong foundation in both technical and personal skills.
