Year 4s Boys Embrace Adventure at Peter Snell Camp
In Week 7 of Term 1, our Year 4 boys embarked on their first overnight camp – three nights at Peter Snell Youth Village in Whangaparāoa. Excitement was high as they set off, ready for an action-packed week of challenge, teamwork, and fun.
The camp’s ‘Pirates of Shakespear’ theme is always a hit amongst the boys, adding a little swashbuckling to the other rather serene waterfront setting on the coast. The boys formed pirate crews, working together to earn ‘pieces of eight’ by demonstrating respect, kindness, and resilience. Each coin collected could later be traded for small treasures, rewarding the best behaviour in a memorable way.
The days were filled with adventure, from scenic hikes and beach games to rock climbing, archery, rifle shooting, axe throwing, and hobo stove cooking. A highlight for many was the giant waterslide, where students, teachers, and parents cheered each person on as they zoomed down the hill. The week concluded with a special ceremony, where each boy received a Pirate Medallion, marking their effort, growth, and the friendships formed during their first camp.
