The Mission of Saint Kentigern is to provide an education that inspires students to strive for excellence in all areas of life for the glory of God and the service of others.
“...For the glory of God and service of others.....”
Our College Christian Education program aims to help each student achieve their potential and prepare for life’s challenges through engaging, relevant, and inquiry-based learning. This approach fosters personal reflection, critical thinking, and practical application of Biblical principles. Christian Education is compulsory for all students from Years 7 - 13 as a core part of our College curriculum.
The Chapel of Saint Kentigern
The Saint Kentigern College Chapel is regarded as the heart of the campus. Weekly Chapel services are held for all staff and students, and once a term, students are expected to attend their House Chapel on a Sunday evening, and their families are invited to attend with them. Whilst Saint Kentigern is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, we are respectful of the fact that our families represent many denominations and faiths. The College Chapel band leads the singing, and the Chaplaincy team delivers engaging messages that connect Biblical stories with life, reinforcing our values and character development. Special events like Founders Day, Anzac Day, Matariki, Easter, and Christmas are also celebrated.
The Saint Kentigern motto, Fides Servanda Est - The Faith Must Be Kept - presents us with a special challenge as we seek to encourage our students to know and love God and to serve others within and beyond our College community. The College actively supports those less fortunate, as part of its Christian ethos, and leads an active Service programme encouraging students to become involved at both a local level and further afield.
Chapel History
The Chapel was opened on 30 July 1972. Approaching the Chapel, at the top of each flight of steps is a lamp. The stone beneath the lamp on the left came from Iona, Scotland and was part of the ancient Abbey there. It was sent to Saint Kentigern College by Lord MacLeod of Fuinary. Beneath the righthand lamp is the stone from Westminster Abbey, London, Sent by the Dean of Westminster. Today the College Chapel is a place of deep significance for students, staff, families and Alumni.
