Final Bruce House formal dinner farewells Year 13 leavers

23 October 2024

The final formal dinner of the year for Bruce House was a poignant evening, held to honour the accomplishments, friendships, and memories that have shaped this year of boarding. Family members of the Year 13 boarders gathered alongside their Bruce House family to reflect on another successful year. The evening began with a welcoming haka, before guests took their places to share a meal together.

Principal Damon Emtage addressed the departing students, leaving them with words of encouragement, “You may move forward knowing that you are equipped with the foundation that will serve you in any path you choose.” Head of Boarding Bridget Anitelea added her heartfelt message, saying, “You must all take the memories, experiences, and connections from Bruce House and store them in your heart. Always remember that Bruce House is home and that you are firmly etched into the soul of this place.”

Throughout the night, the dining hall was filled with lively conversation and laughter, a true reflection of the strong bond shared by our boarders.

The evening also celebrated the exceptional achievements of students across various disciplines. Benjamin Moughan and Cassandra Cai received the MacFarlan Cups as Head Boy and Head Girl, while Jacob Cho was awarded the Morgan Cup for Year 11 Academic Achievement. Max Lee earned the McGuiness Cup for Year 13 Academic Honours, and Te Pumanawa Rogers was recognised twice, with the Norma Cowie Cup for Top All-Round Girl and the Marcroft Cup for Bruce House Sportsperson of the Year. Freddy Hitchcock received the Bruce House Cup for Top All-Round Boy.

In a ceremonial gesture, the prefect robes were passed to the 2025 leaders, incumbent Head Boy Sam Macky and Head Girl Lisa Gu bringing the 2024 era to an end, and transitioning to new leadership ahead of the new year.

As the evening came to a close, students, families, and staff reflected on the lasting impact of their shared experiences. A last word shared by 2024 Bruce House Head Boy Benjamin Moughan closed the page on his cohorts boarding experience, as they look past exams to a well-earned summer break.
