Teeing Up for Victory at the Annual Golf Tournament
On a sun-soaked November day at Remuera Golf Club, the annual SKA Golf Tournament brought alumni and supporters together for a fantastic day of golf and friendly competition. With just under forty teams on the greens, the afternoon had all the landmarks of a good Saint Kentigern reunion – camaraderie, school spirit, and community support.
The day began with hotdogs to energise players for the challenges ahead. A shotgun start saw teams launch into action across the immaculate course, where each swing was fuelled by the hope of a win – or, for the lucky few, bragging rights. The 17th hole was a particular hotspot, thanks to a tempting prize courtesy of Winger Motors for a hole-in-one. Despite valiant efforts, the prize went unclaimed, but the competitive spirit was undeniable.
When the dust settled, Team Alex Smith, Jon Tierney, Sam Tierney, and Sudhir Lala claimed first place, taking home JBL portable speakers, courtesy of Spark Business Hub. After a loss of their title in 2023, they were keen to be back on top this year. Hot on their heels were Team Mike Gascoigne, Nick Lowe, Nick Reeves, and Steve Gallaugher in second place, followed by Team Andrew Buckley, David Yu, Sam Buckley, and Ray Jiang in third.
Special prizes added to the fun, with the Longest Drive going to Matt Hoare, Nearest to the Pin (Hole 3) to Sam Tierney, Nearest to the Pin (Hole 8) to Jordan Leighton, and Nearest to the Pin (Hole 11) to Mike Gowan. None could rival the longevity of Andrew Jarvie, Ian May, Scott Campbell, and Tim Burcher, who earned the ‘Longest Supporters’ title for their unwavering dedication for more than thirty years.
The event’s success was made possible by our generous sponsors and the organisation some key individuals: Director of the Saint Kentigern Foundation Walter Chieng, Commercial Partnership Manager Sacha Palmer, and Alumni Relations Coordinator Hayley Emery. Funds raised went directly to support the College Field Centre equipment which every Year 10 class benefits in their week-long excursion to Tongariro. Here’s to another round next year!
